SUGAR COOKIES

SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE  – CAN BE USED FOR ANY CELEBRATION

I HAVE DOUBLE THIS RECIPE.

1  1/2 CUPS SUGAR

2/3 CUP SHORTENING

2/3 CUP SHORTENING (EASIER FOR ME TO MEASURE TWICE THAN TO DOUBLE AMOUNT)

2 EGGS

1 TEASPOON VANILLA

4 CUPS FLOUR ( I USE PILLSBURY)

1 TABLESPOON BAKING POWDER

1/2 TEASPOON SALT

1/2 CUP MILK

VARIOUS DECORATING ICINGS, SUGARS AND SPRINKLES

CREAM SUGAR AND SHORTENING. BEAT IN EGGS. ADD VANILLA. SIFT FLOUR, BAKING POWDER AND SALT, THEN  ADD ALTERNATELY WITH MILK. (ADD MILK SPARINGLY AS NOT TO GET DOUGH TOO MOIST AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER MIX AS IT WILL MAKE DOUGH TOUGH)

COVER DOUGH AND REFRIGERATE ONE HOUR. ROLL DOUGH  OUT (1/8 INCH THICKNESS  IS BETTER THAN THICKER BUT MORE DIFFICULT TO CUT OUT AND MOVE TO BAKING PAN) uSE WAX PAPER COVERED WITH FLOUR  OR PARCHMENT PAPER. USE EXTRA FLOUR TO KEEP FROM STICKING TO WORK SURFACE AND COOKIE CUTTERS.  HEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES. PLACE COOKIES ON BAKING PAN SPRAYED WITH PAM. DECORATE WITH COLORED SUGAR. BAKE FOR 8-12 MINUTES DEPENDING ON YOUR OVEN AND PANS  UNTIL LIGHTLY BROWNED. REMOVE FROM PAN TO COOKING RACK. YOU CAN DECORATE FURTHER WITH ICING WHEN COOLED. STORE IN AIR TIGHT CONTAINER.
